So, you are saying that "a dollar for 1 piracy" and "a dollar for 10 piracy", either of which will always lead to the same amount of profit, ergo, I can't say the piracy is achieved at the cost of the consumer.
I know what you mean there, but it seems like you are a bit off the points I was making.
What I wanted to say was, unless the authors are payed enough money to keep her/his work going, he has to stop working on their stuff and maybe find another job.
It's all about "paying or not paying", if everyone somehow decided to read their works for free and not paying even a penny, the result is obvious, the whole industry would be completely destroyed.
And so that's why I used the word "expense", piracy wouldn't be possible if it weren't for people who pay for them, or without their "expenses"
