If delivery is what truly drove speaking success, then we would expect the best speeches to be overwhelmingly delivered by the best orators. But if we look at the top 20 most viewed speeches on TED’s website(https://www.ted.com/playlists/171/the_most_popular_talks_of_all), a decent proxy for modern world class speeches, most are not exceptional presenters. Granted, none are bad, but the majority — like Jill Taylor or Kelly McGonical or Pranav Mistry — are merely average in their abilities.
The one thing every one of these 20 TED speeches does have in common, however, without exception, is a profound message. A strong, interesting, unique, well-supported thesis. In other words, they all contain exceptional ideas.
Nor should this conclusion surprise us. It’s all too evident in history’s greatest speeches. Whether it’s Martin Luther King Jr.’s I have a Dream, or Steve Jobs’ Stanford commencement speech, or Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg address, it’s the content of these speeches, the message, the ideas, the quotes that many can recite by heart, that is what ultimately moved listeners then, and what continues to move them today. (In the case of Lincoln’s speech, we don’t even have the video. It’s enduring resonance is based solely on its content).

われわれのモットーは“Where Leaders Are Made”です。 0317名無しさん@英語勉強中 (ワッチョイ 4b33-ONUK)2019/08/01(木) 12:11:19.70ID:Q2fLL8Xw0 Perhaps you’ve seen the Toastmaster’s style in action. Dear president I think an ultimatum should be written in more resolute manner. I do respect your freedom to“ask”me to leave the club. But please understand my freedom to reject your request. It would be difficult to force a member to leave the club with the reason taken out of the context. If I had really implied something dangerous, the club should have expelled me immediately. Needless to say, Toastmasters Club is a democratic organization. The president of the Toastmasters Club is not a tyrant. I expect officers to familialize themselves with democratic procedures. The other day I was very surprised to see the president establish the tie-break rules arbitrarily. The president of a democratic organization should not act as a rule-maker. I might ask about the legitimacy of the tiebreak rule someday. But please be assured that I am not stupid enough as to start a full war. I have been trying to remove obstacles to maintain a positive friendly environment. Thank you for holding not Christmas party but year end party .

Thanks to your interactive leadership, I enjoyed really fruitful Toastmasters activity this year. During your absence, young officers did an outstanding job at our party. But I have to report a regrettable incident at our party. Reffering to my rejection of Christmas, “S”refused to give me Bigo game form. If I had acted angrily, the atmosphere of the party must have been ruined. What “S” did despised officers' sincere efforts. We should not condone such a shameless behavior. Let's face the reality. (引用開始) If delivery is what truly drove speaking success, then we would expect the best speeches to be overwhelmingly delivered by the best orators. But if we look at the top 20 most viewed speeches on TED’s website, a decent proxy for modern world class speeches, most are not exceptional presenters.

It’s hard for me to not seem wishy washy on the subject because my four plus years in Toastmasters were mainly positive.
Yes, there were those not so good moments, but in general I enjoyed being part of an amazing club and making some excellent friends.
With that being said, there are a lot of things to look out for with Toastmasters. The main culprit is the focus on style over substance.
People overdo style in their speeches and Toastmasters audiences love them. I’ll never forget the first (and only time) I sat through a district speech contest.
Some of the speeches were good but others, including the one that won, were far from impressive.
It was at that point where I realized that winning speech contest doesn’t really amount to anything outside of Toastmasters.(https://blog.jvf.com/2012/01/09/the-problem-with-toastmasters/) 0416名無しさん@英語勉強中 (ワッチョイ 2333-gW4a)2020/10/06(火) 10:40:27.02ID:HOmrbRm90 In fact, many of the people that do well in Toastmasters find it challenging in the real world because the audiences are so different.
The loud shouts to get attention, perfectly worded introductions, over-exaggerated gestures and other tricks that impress your club don’t always work in the outside world.
I know because I’ve had it happen to me. I remember giving a speech to a group of about 50 people and throwing out all of my best tricks that my Toastmasters audiences loved,
My Japanese-speaking Toastmasters friends helped me after the meeting this evening. After 30 minutes of discussion, I think it means:
'If the bird does not sing, I will acknowledge it as well.'
It means that this team will appreciate individual talents and value diversity. This is a very poetic way to convey a leader's core value.
Do I finally understand it correctly?
I asked Mr. Takada and he said....
It is completely correct. What I want to say is each and everyone has good point and that point must be respected.

If someone wins and they have a component in there which is replicable like a song, a dance, or climbing up a step ladder, then you will see a number of copycats in next year’s contest.

This year, a relatively calm speaker got the first prize, defeating theatrical speakers who have always gotten the first prize in Toastmasters speech contest. But none of the speeches impressed me. I found the interview session more interesting than the speech session. Uniquely diverse people in the interview delivered boringly stereotyped speeches about their failures or hardships. Their efforts to win the contest seem to have made them dull speakers. I always think conformity is the worst enemy of creativity. Conformists obey authority without thinking by themselves. Therefore their speeches are always boring. 0485名無しさん@英語勉強中 (ワッチョイW 2aef-kF5a)2021/06/09(水) 00:04:46.13ID:iMut4+/i0 Goid suggestion but calm speech often make people sleepy. Speakers should try to keep listeners attention otherwise boring 0486名無しさん@英語勉強中 (ワッチョイ cf33-JlJp)2021/06/11(金) 00:03:17.22ID:CTxA1iq/0 If delivery is what truly drove speaking success, then we would expect the best speeches to be overwhelmingly delivered by the best orators. But if we look at the top 20 most viewed speeches on TED’s website, a decent proxy for modern world class speeches, most are not exceptional presenters.

A Toastmasters club is the best club in the world. We share a mission to empower individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders. Our story is compelling. Smedley’s story is compelling. I hope when you meet other Toastmasters at your district conference, you share stories about why you are convinced that your club is the best in the world.

In your email to the Club Secretary (related to a simple request for a change of the minutes) it contained words such as “If you do not correct the meeting minutes then I will make this public.” The words to “go public” seem to be a general threat. In another email message from you to the Club Secretary, it contained comments such as “You had better stay away from me.” This implies a personal threat as it seems that you will do something dangerous to her. These words are inappropriate and unacceptable.
