He didn't reach for a weapon. He reached for the map.
As his fingers touched the glowing vellum, his mind was flooded with the weight of the spheres. He saw the "intervals" Inés had mentioned—the degrees of the sun, the lean of the stars. They weren't just coordinates; they were the mathematical constants that held existence together.
The blind man lunged, his blackened rapier aimed straight for Mateo’s heart.
Mateo didn't flinch. He grabbed the map and slammed it down onto the center of the Orrery, right over the iron key he had placed there earlier.
"I am the missing variable," Mateo snarled.
He envisioned the map not as a piece of skin, but as a bridge. He began to fold it. Not physically, but in his mind. He folded the space between the red crosses. He forced the intervals to close.
The Orrery shrieked. The golden rings buckled.
The blind man’s blade stopped an inch from Mateo’s chest. The air around them had become as thick as lead. Time was stuttering.
"You... fool," the blind man wheezed, his red blindfold fluttering in the temporal gale. "You cannot seal the void with a human soul. The price is everything."
"Then take it," Mateo said.
He twisted the iron key within the map.

The red ink suddenly turned from crimson to a brilliant, holy white. The light didn't explode outward; it imploded. The Great Eye in the sky blinked. The suction of the void reversed.
The black-clad warriors were suddenly swept off their feet, not by wind, but by a sudden rush of memory. The crystalline spheres shattered, releasing thousands of years of sights, sounds, and emotions. The hunters were drowned in a tidal wave of human experience—the smell of rain, the warmth of a first kiss, the sting of a betrayal. To men who worshipped the void, this onslaught of "being" was lethal. They withered, their forms dissolving into grey ash as they were overwhelmed by the sheer density of life.
The blind man screamed as his red silk blindfold was torn away, revealing eyes that were not empty, but filled with the terrifying brilliance of the stars. He vanished into the light, a shadow erased by a sun.
"Mateo! Hold on!" Inés reached for him, but the gravity of the closing seal was pulling him toward the throne.
The skeleton’s compass began to glow. The needle snapped toward Mateo.
The map was consuming itself, and Mateo with it. He felt his memories—the fear of the Inquisition, the smell of the Lisbon docks, even the sound of Inés’s voice—beginning to fray at the edges, being used as fuel to weld the breach in reality.
He had a choice: let go and let the void swallow the world, or hold on and be erased to save it.
"Inés!" Mateo shouted over the roar of the collapsing dimensions. "The key! Turn the key back!"
"If I do, the bridge collapses! You'll be stranded!"
"Just do it!"
Inés leaped across the spinning gears, her hand catching the iron key. She looked at Mateo one last time—a look of recognition, of respect, and of a grief twenty years in the making.

>>762 >a carは玩具 あぁそれで納得。 あと昨日はjoshuaの英語の出来なさについて分かるかどうか聞いてたのか。今まで晒されてきた内容を見ればあいつがまともに英文読めてないのは誰の目から見ても明らかだろ。 一応書いておく。 ①Scored a car and a wheel in the street minutes apart. in the streetは場所を表す「副詞句」。 みたいな感じか? in the streetもminutes apartもScoredにかかって修飾してる。 ②I'll hand the paper in/ first thing /in the morning. in the morningも副詞句で どちらもhand ~inを修飾。 in the morningはfirst thingにかからない。 ③I talked to a boy /my age. のmy ageはof my age(私と同年代の)からofが省かれた「形容詞句」だ。
