ところで、黒羊さんがうっかり audience と書いてしまったところは、
本人も反省いている通り、確かに listener の方が自然なんだろうと思う。
でもこの程度のケアレスミスをがたがたしつこく言い続けるのは、
嫉妬に狂ったヒステリックな叫びにしか聞こえない。

ただ、たった一人の人が事務所か何かで別の2人を眺めていたときに、
その1人の人のことを audience と言っている例を2日前に
読書の最中に見つけたので、一応は紹介しておこう。
こういうふうな状況でも audience と言うのだな、と思いながら、
頭の中に入れておきたい。ここでは、show でも play でもなんでもなく、
事務所かどこかで二人の子供 (two chubby children) を眺めていた一人の人
(つまり me) を「彼ら二人の audience」 (their audience) と言っているのだ。

As the clerk was fiddling with my bill, I happened to look out of
a nearby window, beyond which two chubby children were romping on
the hotel lawn. After a few seconds the kids caught ●me● watching them.
They stopped and stared back at their ★audience★, standing perfectly still,
side by side.
