First metal band I ever saw live. I got hooked on them by the Friday Rock Show like many others. Missed my train and spent the night on a cold floor. Totally worth it. I wanted them to be successful but I'm afraid it was asking too much to expect a Japanese rock band to take the U.K. by storm in the late 80's! They will always be one of my favourite bands.
I had the pleasure of seeing Vow Wow live twice in the eighties - absolutely awesome! One of the best live bands I have had the pleasure of seeing!
Love this band, was lucky enough to see them in the UK when they relocated there for a few years, Genki Hitomi is an amazing vocalist. would love to see him again, anyone know if he still plays small shows? will be in japan in march
How does a metal head like me from the 80’s never hear of this incredible band?
They flew really under-the-radar here in the US. I just happened to pick up a cassette that had "Shock Waves" on it, plus a few of their other better songs. In a bargain bin of course, lol. I thought their song writing was a bit uneven but when they nailed it, they really nailed it. There were quite a few hidden gems back in the 80s that no one seemed to pay attention to. As soon as thrash hit the scene, most of the straight ahead metal bands were being ignored. 0212伝説の名無しさん2020/08/31(月) 00:03:48.45 Love this band, was lucky enough to see them in the UK when they relocated there for a few years, Genki Hitomi is an amazing vocalist. would love to see him again, anyone know if he still plays small shows? will be in japan in march

0213伝説の名無しさん2020/08/31(月) 00:04:37.23 They flew really under-the-radar here in the US. 0217伝説の名無しさん2020/09/17(木) 14:35:09.69 V After the sublime Cyclone & album opener Hurricane, comes the equally brilliant 3 & album opener Shot In The Dark. An absolutely storming riff with a great chant along lyric that works brilliantly live. I know, I saw them on the V tour at the Tivoli in Buckley, North Wales. The contrast of the tinkle tinkle keyboards with the Bam Bam Bam Bam in your face guitar takes your head off. This is what Vow Wow were all about. Unlike some bands who seem to have a keyboard player for the look of the thing & because arena rock demanded it, Rei Atsumi doesn't get buried in the mix, but forms an integral part of the band sound. Just as well, this guy can play!! Nightless city is another stormer for the same reasons. Another staple of their live set at the time. Pains of love makes a great album closer, just taking things down a bit. All in all a well rounded & beautifully recorded album. 0218伝説の名無しさん2020/09/17(木) 14:38:18.27 An excellent set of tunes from a greatly underrated & lesser known 80s band. They just kept getting better. What a shame they stopped releasing albums to the UK when they went back to Japan. 0219伝説の名無しさん2020/09/17(木) 14:46:28.95 It's hard to pick a standout track on this album, since Vow Wow don't do "album filler". Don't tell me lies is a great opener, which they always seem to do. But unlike some bands who've shot their bolt after that, the rest of the album isn't an anti-climax. Cry No More is far from being the "pointless ballad" that a lot of bands did when they realised this was their way into the charts. It's a beautifully crafted song, & fits right in with the rest. Born to Die is another crowd pleaser from their live set with a great chant along lyric. I saw them live on this tour, by which time Kenji Sano (bass) had left & been replaced by Neil Murray, the journeyman bassist (ex-whitesnake & just about everyone else). Musically I wasn't totally convinced he was the best fit. AOR? Crisp, powerful AOR from Japan. This is one of their best, highly recommended. Bow Wow / Vow Wow are often incorrectly categorized a 'metal' band. Complete nonsense. Wonderful synth drenched AOR, for fans of Journey, 80's Kiss, Cheap Trick and Omega.

Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2018 These guys are unreal!! Excellent old rock from Japan. So catchy, the riffs are talented and the band just really had their stuff together. I can’t believe I had never heard of them until recently. They have now become one of my favorite bands. I couldn’t recommend “signal fire” enough!! But they are just great the first 3 albums. Very Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, deep purple like. A touch of sabbath. I have no problems with broken English and Japanese lyrics at all. I love Japanese music. Each member of bow wow is talented to the max!! Get this gem of an album and their other early works. 0275伝説の名無しさん2020/11/15(日) 10:41:08.57 5.0 out of 5 stars Listen up, you legions of NWOBHM fanatics!!
Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2009 Or make that the New Wave of Japanese Heavy Metal!! What the heck is "BowWow" you may be asking?? If I hadnt known better,i'd a guessed some (deservedly) forgotten hair-metal band from the 80's.Not so fast. This is being heralded as an unsung Hard Rock classic from 1977, with such heavy hitters as Metallica and Iron Maiden(!) cited as being majorly influenced by these Japanese musicians - friend, this is Heavy Metal of the highest order! This is from 1977?? Unreal! I can see how not only Iron Maiden, but the ENTIRE New Wave of British Heavy Metal scene took ahold of this thing and went flying! The gallop, the riffing, its all here! Ive read other mentions of this being the Eastern version of what Van Halen was doing concurrently on the West Coast, what with Eddie's hammer/tap-on style, but have NO worries of this being a Japanese Van Halen clone-far from it! Nothing against early Van Halen but this is a WAY heavier, at times proto-speed metal(!) "hard rock" masterpiece! How did this remain unknown for so long?!? 0276伝説の名無しさん2020/11/15(日) 10:50:11.73 メタリカやメイデン、バンヘイレンがこの世に出る前の1977年に 後にスピードメタル(日本での意味とは違う)と呼ばれる音楽の原型が 極東の日本でBOWWOWとして生まれていたことに驚愕して”アンリアル”だと 今になってアメリカ人に再評価されてるんだよ これもネットで情報が流れる時代の影響だけどね
