at the next station an old woman got on and stood next to me. everyone sitting on the seat, as usual, pretended as if he were sleeping. i'd observed such scenes quite a few times though it's only one years since i came from canada to japan, and i'd realized that japanese people were less polite than i imagined.
at that time, a youth behind me stood up, and offered a seat to the old woman. i praised his politeness in my heart.
