I look forward to each release and buy at least 2 copies - 1 for me and 1 for a fellow fan, despite using Spotify for nearly everything else. Always a unique take with a meaningful groove. The perfect fit for me in every way. So many good releases. This is among the best for me already, for sure. Was waiting for eventual social statement on more than a topical levels. This qualifies fully. If you have any doubts, put them aside and make the buy. No regrets.
Wer hier vielleicht we
So sollte englische Popmusik klingen.
0217名盤さん2022/12/28(水) 04:14:04.31ID:fxdJE4zJ Fur mich keine Frage: Neben Daniel Treacy (TV Personalities) ist Pat Fish aka The Jazzbutcher der zweite Godfather of Britpop. 0218名盤さん2022/12/28(水) 04:31:07.50ID:fxdJE4zJ The original album (CD1) sounds slightly better than the old CD to me, slightly less bright with a "warmer" EQ.
The substantial booklet notes by David J and Andrew Brooksbank are top-notch stuff: detailed, full of unknown anecdotes. The booklet also features memorabilia, singles art, photos, and is beautifully designed. The discs have the silver on black lettering and light bulb, and someone has even bothered to ensure the rear packaging inlay is the same red colour as the inside of the cover of the original first-pressing of the LP. A really outstanding presentation by someone who obviously knew what they were doing, and it's much-appreciated by this long-term fan.
CD2 is a packed, well-sequenced and unprecedented journey through alternative versions of known songs, known rarities, a beautiful out-take, and best of all, the 1979 home recordings, electronic drones and industrial noise with David's voice and recitations, great and sinister stuff, coming on like Eraserhead Lynch vs David J vs Amon Duul II.
Never stub out the dog-end of these Northamptonian days gone by, and tell your friends about David J, one of the most compelling British artists of the last 35 years. 0219名盤さん2022/12/28(水) 04:33:00.48ID:fxdJE4zJ I ordered this album with some trepidation as although I'm a bit of a Bauhaus anorak, some solo stuff can be either self indulgent or lacking in focus.
But as with David J's "Etiquette of Violence" or for that matter bandmate Peter Murphy's "Ninth" when they hit the mark ,the results can be brilliant.
This current offering has an all encompassing theme and soundscape. For a double album, in old money,it holds your attention throughout.
J doesn't throw the kitchen sink at it either, which allows the songs to breathe. And creates an effective sonic template.
Of note particularly is the revisit of "I Hear Only Silence" from his debut solo album mentioned above.
