その時に浮かんだのが、小学校の頃の同級生とその母親のことだった。
少年の母親は脚が不自由ながら、工事現場で働いていた。
足が悪いためによろけると、周囲から「やめちまえ」「ろくでなし」「迷惑なんだよ」などと罵声を浴びせられた。
しかし、息子の前では胸を張り、大丈夫だという顔をした。
少年は勉強やスポーツができず、ケンカも弱くていじめられていたが、
母に心配させたくないという理由で、いじめを母親にも内緒にしていた。
ところがある日、母親はとうとう、息子がいじめられていることに気がついた。
その時、母親は息子に、次のように語った。
「喧嘩が強いなら、偉いんじゃなかとよ。金持ちだから、偉いんじゃなかとよ。
勉強ができなくても貧乏でも、そういうのは関係なかと。
一番偉かとはね、とにかく正直で、お天道様の前に胸を張って、
誰にも指さされないように一生懸命働いて、正直に生きる。それが一番偉かとよ。だから、お前は偉かと」。
これが、ひとつの着想となった。

ＴＡＲＡＫＯさん
国民的な人気を誇るフジテレビ系アニメ「ちびまる子ちゃん」（日曜・後６時）で主人公・まる子の声を３４年間務めた声優でシンガー・ソングライターのＴＡＲＡＫＯ（タラコ＝本名非公表）さんが４日未明に死去した。６３歳だった。９日に所属事務所や同局が発表した。今年に入り体調を崩し、闘病しながら仕事を続けていたが、容体が急変したという。

【評伝】
ＴＡＲＡＫＯさんは「まる子」に出会うまでの駆けだしの声優時代、その特徴的な声がコンプレックスのひとつだったという。少年のヒーローにも、可憐（かれん）なヒロインにもなれず「主役向きの声ではない」と落とされてばかり。そんな中で、さくらさんに「声がそっくり」というまる子役に出会い、等身大のおしゃべりがキャラクターになる縁を得た。
ファンの間で語り継がれる伝説のラジオがある。１９９２年２月１７日の「さくらももこのオールナイトニッポン」。パーソナリティーのさくらさん、さくらさんと声が似ているとウワサになっていたシンガー・ソングライターのイルカ、ＴＡＲＡＫＯさんの３人が集い、「誰が誰だか分からない」とリスナーを混乱に陥れた放送があり、本人たちもことあるごとに笑い話に。ＴＡＲＡＫＯさんも１８年の「ありがとうの会」で「似てるって、こんなに幸せでうれしくてありがたくて、なんかグッとくるものなんだなっていうことも、ももこちゃんが教えてくれました」と語るほどだった。
私生活では４匹の保護猫と生活。公式ブログでは、猫への愛や「ちびまる子ちゃん」アフレコの様子、主宰する劇団「ＷＡＫＵプロデュース」での舞台製作に精力的に打ち込む様子をつづっていた。
