神経過敏の症状を伴って・・・ 0081名無しさん@英語勉強中2015/11/18(水) 04:15:48.06ID:0CHcFtjL I finished the book "the hotel on the corner of bitter and sweet" and absolutely loved it!
It's about innocent love between a Chinese boy, Henry and a Japanese girl, Keiko during wartime America. They are both born and raised in Seattle,WA but because of their ethnicity they have a difficult time being accepted into American society as "American".
Being the only asian kids at all white school, they starts hanging out together and forms a special friendship. However, after Pearl Harbor attack, Keiko and her family are sent to an internment camp and they are torn apart. Despite their effort to stay together, they fall out of contact and end up living their life apart from each other.
The book deals with the matters of racism, father-son relationship, identity crisis and so forth. Especially, Henry's struggle for the sense of identity is describe so well and in detail. I can relate a lot to it because I myself was going through something similar in my childhood. I think Henry's realistic account probably comes from the author's own experience as growing up as a child of mixed race.
Overall, it was well-written and very satisfying. If you look for a sad love story that doesn't make you shitty or regret reading it afterwards, this is the right book!! 0082名無しさん@英語勉強中2015/11/18(水) 04:18:27.36ID:0CHcFtjL *make you feel shitty 0083名無しさん@英語勉強中2015/11/18(水) 14:12:28.57ID:xs2+49nO 自分は日本語で本読むときもスピードは遅いからなあ 日本語の本でも神経質に後戻りもするし、興味のあるくだりは 頭の中で何度かなぞったり、反芻したりしながら立ち止まる。

in the soup で「困って、やっかいなことになって」の意だそうだから、 drop sb. in the soup で厄介事に巻き込む、程度の意味か。

low gear =テンションが低い、不活発、程度の意味か。

You are the light of the world --- like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God's law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God's laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
