Hey jook, could you watch this and tell me how well did you understand what the actors said in the movie? Maybe can you tell out of 100%?The video lasts For me, I could catch only the words of "fuc○ing" even though I've studing english 5 years and fairly understand american english. Nobody can understand a thick Scottish accent like that. I understood maybe 30-40%.
Then the narrator talks. Ewan McGregor is Scottish too but his accent is much milder. I can understand him perfectly.
The next man has a thicker accent again, but not as bad as the first guy. but I can still understand him fine. However, I am a bit familiar with Scottish people anyway so I didn't have trouble understanding him. I can definitely see how it would be hard.
Then we have Ewan McGregor narrating again. He's easy.
Then back to the first guy. I could understand him this time because I was more prepared for it. He said, "Right! Nobody move! That lassie got blasted, no cunt leaves here til we find out what cunt did it."
Since I already watched the whole video, I thought maybe I would be used to the accent, so I tried watching the first scene again. I couldn't understand any more, still about 30-40%. see how it would be difficult for some people though. 0592jook ◆jook7sIb7g (ワッチョイ bfd1-HquM)2017/12/13(水) 09:45:57.81ID:jvpwY6d00>>591 Ignore the last line, it came from nowhere. 0593名無しさん@英語勉強中 (ワッチョイW 57bd-UXyN)2017/12/13(水) 12:21:59.49ID:BM/TAqTV0>>591 Thank you for sharing your knowledge! The understanding isn't perfect; some of the words I couldn't give you a definition of, but given the context I can fill in the blanks and get a good idea of what was the intention. I've found that English speakers generally can understand a wide range of accents, but really thick ones that have a unique lexicon and morphology can require getting used to. For example, I had a professor in university that had a really thick Indian accent which I could not understand for about two weeks, but after having classes with him for that amount of time I could start to make sense of what he was saying. 0596名無しさん@英語勉強中 (USWW 0Hdf-MFkR)2017/12/13(水) 15:33:41.69ID:lbM9GHdrH>>595 Stink disgusting You're disgusting Then

When it comes to English magazines, I don't read them at all. Instead, I make it habit to read books on a daily basis. But my reading speed is so slow that I almost take a month to finish reading only one book. That's because I can't help consulting my dictinary whenever I run into words and phrases whose meanings I don't know. 0676名無しさん@英語勉強中 (ワッチョイ ebc7-RjCm)2017/12/17(日) 14:30:05.85ID:xghXKZc10>>675 Wow! I also didn't know when and why they changed its name to the Japan news. Yeah I've heard of that rumor, but I don't have what it takes to recognize the mistakes in the first place. lol So I periodically copy some passages of the editorials by hand to improve my writing skills. Even if I find such an error in them, I won't care at all. That's because I think we human beings cannnot avoid making mistakes, besides there are a lot more I can learn from them. 0683名無しさん@英語勉強中 (ワッチョイWW 1224-HKN3)2017/12/17(日) 22:14:20.39ID:qpPLH5g20 Frankly speaking, we can detect a lot of grammatical mistakes in English newspapers. Some newspapers even create a site to accept claims about such errors. Same things cannot be said to Japanese newspapers. It is almost impossible to detect any errors throughout the papers in most cases. This suggests huge difference between both languages. To put it simply, English is easy to make grammatical mistakes. 0684名無しさん@英語勉強中 (ワッチョイWW 1224-HKN3)2017/12/17(日) 22:26:30.58ID:qpPLH5g20 We don't need to care about the singular or plural, and and an article. And grammatical flexibilities might be another factor. Japanese is so flexible that it is difficult to say:"Hey that's completely wrong!". 0685名無しさん@英語勉強中 (ワッチョイWW 87f1-pGvb)2017/12/17(日) 23:04:41.58ID:+xR5e3+L0>>687 Agree without a doubt. Then,I want to recognize why that ,mistake, take place. In my opinion.
One of the reason is that such small rule e.g. verb-s has no important function to change the meaning. 0686Sanakazubi (CA 0Hbf-AMYv)2017/12/17(日) 23:41:28.28ID:KHVOmFDzH>>685

English can be very flexible too.I can understand almost any broken English.
