Ulyssesについてのコメントや英語について書く。 もう少しで550ページの批評が読み終わるから我慢するか
でも批評とか読んでいて急にまったく関係ない作品を読まなきゃと思うときあるよね 今、A Portraitを物凄い速さで読みたいと思っているんだけど、
批評がもう少し残っているし、Ulyssesは毎日30分〜1時間は目を通しているけど
Finnegans Wakeに集中したい気持ちもあるなぁ A Portraitは、ダブリンへの機内等でも読んでいたので6回以上読んでいるかな。
Ulyssesは、まだ2回繰り返しと、4分の3だね。この間、Ulysses持って行ったけど
読まなかったな。 ジョイスで充実w
Stephen and Bloom, the young Joyce and the older Joyce Peter CostelloのJoyce関連書も再読の価値あり、伝記など。 Intertextualityでこんな面白い小説って他にない。
単にA retelling of Homer's Odyssey, set in Dublinというだけじゃ収まらないところが
いい。Dubliners やA Portraitとの関連性も他の作家と比べられない。
この作品群はFWも含めて最高。そしてジョイスの批評も面白い。
読めない奴って残念だと思うけど、逆に、この作品群を読んでもらいたくも無いな。
独り占めにしたくなる小説だな。 A Portraitを4日で読もうとしたが、大変だ。
1日読んでいれば、4日で楽に読めると思うけど隙間時間に読む場合には
やはり、カリフォルニア・バークレーと変わらないのか。
大学の頃、バークレーの学生にこのA Portraitをどのくらいで読めるか聞いたら、
このくらいなら1週間以内と言っていたが、そんなものか。4日では少しキツイか。 それにしても
Virginia Woolfなんか女々しくて全く駄目だけど、D. H. Lawrenceも女が読むような小説。
この2人と全く正反対なのがJoyceだよ。すばらしい。 もちろん、D. H. LawrenceもVirginia Woolfは特にUlyssesを嫌っていたがね。

これの記念行事祭が多いってことね。 アマゾンの試し読みで見てみると、Fallenっていう小説は、どうやら
洋書を読んで英語の勉強や多読のすゝめとか言っているような連中向き
の内容だな。 肉欲に身を任せた若い主人公が教会で神父に懺悔し悔悛した後に
普段食べている朝食を見て、
White pudding and eggs and sausages and cups of tea.
How simple and beautiful was life after all! And life lay all before him.

これに比べると
「ユリシーズ」は大人の小説だ。
Smells of men. Spaton sawdust, sweetish warmish cigarettesmoke,
reek of plug, spilt beer, men’s beery piss, the stale of ferment.

ジョイス作の「肖像」や「ユリシーズ」が明示してるというか
いくつかあるテーマの一つだな(不倫小説は他にいくらでもあるけど)
人間の起こすであろう考えられる事件が全て記されている
英語も凄いが内容も人知を超えてしまっているところに偉大な
小説の価値があるといえるだろう ベルファーストとの“Two Cities, One Book”というのもイスラム国のテロ行為と
アイルランドのIRAによる対英テロ闘争とは違うというイメージ作りでもある
観光業にも影響するから“Two Cities, One Book”なんて言ってるんだろう

ベネットカップ・レースで、ドイツ・メルセデスに乗ることになっていた。
前年6月16日、アイルランドでおこなわれたレースで勝ち、人気があった。
ただし1904年6月16日の優勝者はフランスのテリー。

海戦(仁川沖)において、日本側の高角射撃はロシア艦の薄い甲板に対して
効果的だった(二隻撃沈)。

逆にこの作品を楽しんで読めれば英語や語学は卒業と言ってもいい 本は、Ulysses と Ulyssesの関連書籍だけ所蔵だな Hans Walter Gabler版のUlyssesは、必携だな
